On the second consecutive Bless You Boys Podcast recorded immediately after a Tigers bullpen implosion, Al goes off on Mike Valenti, Kurt gets depressed and joins the Illuminati, Ian agrees with Lynn Henning and we all remember when Cale Iorg was a thing.

BYB Podcast 72 has a running time of 1:10 and features Kurt Mensching, Al Beaton and special guest Ian Casselberry.

Looking for Allison? She took the episode off in order to see a screening of "42." Expect a review on next week's podcast.

Topics:

  • Brayan Villarreal on the hot seat.
  • The Detroit Tigers bullpen by committee experiment is a work in progress, Jim Leyland still doesn't have a system in place.
  • Is Phil Coke a LOOGY or not?
  • Will Joaquin Benoit end up as the de facto closer?
  • Drew Smyly and Darin Downs deserve bigger roles.
  • Did Ramon Santiago pass the audition?
  • The velocity of Justin Verlander's fastball down according to baseball hipsters, ignoring the small sample size.
  • Torii Hunter makes his presence quickly known. Brennan Boesch and Quintin Berry who?
  • The Tigers have wasted the potential of the designated hitter for much of the history of the position.
  • The payroll piper will have to be paid in the next 2-3 seasons and fans will not like it.
  • The Tigers have several core players on the cusp of their next contract (by 2015) who will either get significant raises or massive, long-term deals from another team (Miguel Cabrera, Austin Jackson, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister, Alex Avila, Rick Porcello). It's a depressing thought, but the Tigers will not be able to keep them all.
  • If the Tigers decide to trade Miguel Cabrera, after this season is the time to do it. His value will never be higher with two years left on his contract.
  • The Tigers release "Future All-Star" Cale Iorg.
  • Can you honestly say the AL Central is tougher than last season after a mere eight games?
  • Sad Allison is sad. The Blue Jays claim Casper Wells.
  • It's going to be a great season if you;re a fan MLB.
  • Rebel umpires are needed. As in robots.
  • WXYT's Mike Valenti knows less than nothing about baseball.

With Kurt off running the SB Nation mothership, Allison and Al spend a World Series travel day Bless You Boys Podcast trying to figure out what went wrong in San Francisco and what could go right for the Tigers in Detroit.

BYB Podcast 63 has a running time of 47 minutes and features Al Beaton and Allison Hagen.

Topics:

  • The Tigers down 0-2 to the Giants. Time to panic?
  • The Tigers have a far better record at home than on the road. Will home cooking turn the series around ion the Tigers favor?
  • Was Gene Lamont too aggressive in waving Prince Fielder home in game 2? Did Jim Leyland make the correct call in settling for the double play while giving up a run late in game 2?
  • Was Justin Verlander off his game or do you just tip your cap to Pablo Sandoval?
  • Should Doug Fister been left in the game after being hit by a line drive, considering the possibility of a concussion?
  • If you want to point fingers, point at the Tigers offense. Any chance the Tigers' bat can come around against right hand pitching, even if they are the Giants best post season pitchers?
  • If feels like the Giants have have gotten every break, bounce and call. But saying their lead is due to luck is not giving them their due. They have outplayed the Tigers.
  • Media narratives for this week: "The Giants are a scrappy team doing all the little things right" and "The Giants are making their own breaks."
  • Have we seen the last of Jose Valverde?
  • 40 of 50 teams who have taken a 2-0 World Series lead have gone on to clinch the championship. Will the Tigers win 2 games and take the series back to San Francisco?

Check out the Giants Pod podcast. Al was the guest of Thomas and Danny as they talked the first two games of the World Series, Verlander’s meltdown, Valverde’s ineffectiveness, Jim Leyland and Bruce Bochy’s similarities, and what to expect from the rest of the Fall Classic.

Kurt, Allison and Al revel in what was a hugely successful season opening home stand for the Detroit Tigers in the latest Bless You Boys Podcast!

BYB Podcast 34 has a running time of 1:11 and features Kurt Mensching, Allison Hagen and Al Beaton.

Topics:

  • Another BYB Meetup reminder!
  • Thanks to Baroque being unable to sleep, there is now a FanPost for ALL of your fantasy rosterbation needs. If you do so in the game threads, we will mock you mercilessly in the next podcast!
  • Everyone on the Tigers is off to a fast start...save for a few of the usual suspects.
  • There's lots to like and very little of concern after a 5-1 home stand.
  • Who is the Tigers' week 1 MVP?
  • Ohhhh, Jackson! Austin Jackson, that is...
  • The fact there are no wins from Justin Verlander, or anyone else in the starting rotation, during the 5-1 start is as fluky as it comes.
  • Doug Fister to the DL, Adam Wilk joins Drew Smyly in the rotation.
  • Daniel Schlereth is the new BYB whipping boy. Is it deserved? Allison says yes, Kurt says no.
  • The Cult is no more. Clete Thomas designated for assignment.
  • Victor Martinez is still not ruled out for a late season return from knee surgery..but don't count on it, either.
  • As expected, there are more John Lannan rumors. Expect nothing to come of them.
  • The Tigers seem to be doing just fine despite the baseball hipsters decrying the dire straits of the minor league system for the past several years.
  • Time for Boston Red Sox fans to panic? We sure hope so!
  • The small market Cincinnati Reds give long-term, mega-dollars contracts to Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips. Crazy smart...or  crazy insane?
  • Ozzie Guillen says he loves him some Fidel Castro, gets suspended 5 games. Chicago White Sox fans point toward the Miami Marlins...and laugh.
  • Letters from listeners, where we recommend a few Twitter accounts from journalists we think are worth following.
  • Red Wings fan Al and Sharks Kurt both think Brendan Shanahan is an idiot. It needed to be said.

Brandon Inge mentions: We are on an a hiatus from from all things Inge.

Blogs mentioned: Hardball Times

Twitter feeds recommended: Micheal Rosenberg, Bob Wojnowski, Joe Posnanski, Tony Paul, Matthew B. Mowrey.

  • Could the Tigers really be interested in Jimmy Rollins?
  • Any off season moves will be based on first acquiring Yoenis Cespedes.
  • Do the editors agree with the BYB readership, is a big move or two needed to win the AL Central?
  • Are you outraged over the Ryan Braun PED scandal, or do you have 'roid fatigue?
  • Albert Pujols and CJ Wilson get crazy money from the Angels...or are they crazy like a fox?
  • The Marlins are throwing around cash like Tony Montana snorts cocaine.
  • You should be reading the blogs of Phil Coke's Brain, Dirk Haywurst and Rogo.
  • Kurt's birthday is on Christmas Eve...and no one ever remembers.

Brandon Inge mentions:1

We apologize for the lack of listener questions. They were left out because the podcast would have been a good 6 hours long otherwise. They'll be back, so hang in there.

We LOVE to hear from you. If you have any questions or comments about the podcast, please email us at BYBPodcast at Gmail.com. And listener questions will return...
