  • Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer are good at baseball.
  • Meet Quintin Berry!
  • Did Berry's call up make Don Kelly redundant?
  • Collin Balester vs. Luke Putkonen.
  • Losing Austin Jackson to injury is like losing an MVP candidate.

  • Can the starting rotation be improved?
  • If the Tigers could do it over, would they sign Prince Fielder to a huge contract or spend his $23M a season on other roster holes?
  • Can the Tigers win with their current roster?
  • Will they need to get a player or two at the trade deadline, and at what positions?
  • When and where does Nick Castellanos fit in Detroit?
  • Is there enough prospect ammunition in the minor league system to pull off another Cabrera-like deal?
  • Farm system bright spots.
  • Name the better Berry: Quintin, Franken, or Straw?
  •  If this lineup were a band, would it be called "Prince Miggy and the Number 9 Hitters?"
  • How many trolls do we need to sacrifice to the Baseball Gods to give the Tigers a break?
  • Lightning round!
  • Final thoughts with a rant!

I'm frustrated, you're frustrated, everyone's frustrated. Getting swept by the Twins is frustrating  The Tigers not hitting, pitching or fielding is frustratingly frustrating. Frustration is the word of the day on the latest Bless You Boys Podcast.

BYB Podcast 40 runs 1:17 and features Kurt Mensching, Melissa Heyboer and Al Beaton.

  • Being swept by the Twins is a season low point, everybody PANIC!
  • How can the Tigers go an entire month without winning 2 consecutive games? Quite easily, as it turned out.
  • Jim Leyland has fallen in love with bunting. Is it too much small ball or just trying to make things happen?
  • Austin Jackson injured, everybody PANIC!
  • Jackson and WAR.
  • Is Andy Dirks for real?
  • Delmon Young is an outfielder who can't field, and a designated hitter who can't hit.
  • Jose Valverde is injured, Joaquin Benoit will close...if the Tigers ever get into position to win a damn game.
  • Brayan Villarreral called up, Danny Worth sent down. Is there even a need for Worth on the roster at this point? (despite the Mlive contingent believing he should start over Raburn)
  • Some Detroit News columnist says the Tigers must keep playing Ryan Raburn.
  • Tigers seek answers for Daniel Schlereth's sore shoulder.
  • What's missed more, Victor Martinez or Vitcor Martinez's bat?
  • Will Rhymes has a scary incident.
  • The News' Jerry Green doesn’t like new-fangled things like OBP and OPS.
  • The News' Terry Foster thinks Placido Polanco would have solved the Tigers problems at 2nd base for the past 3 seasons...but he didn't look at the stats, which say otherwise.
  • Mlive's Bill Simonson says the Tigers problems can be fixed if they try harder. Seriously.
  • The Lightning Round gives secrets for surviving 10PM starts and deletes a sportswriter's Twitter account.
  • Al takes a flamethrower to a segment of the Tigers' fanbase. The segment who think using "Dumbrowski" and "Ra-bum" is witty. (WARNING: This segment gets LOUD)

Following up on the tone of the site the past few weeks, Kurt, Allison and Al talk about the worst team in all of baseball, the Detroit Tigers, in this week's Bless You Boys Podcast.  I don't even know why we bothered recording, as the season is essentially over. But we slogged ahead, despite out ennui.

Or maybe we're just tired and cranky from a week of 10PM starts.

BYB Podcast 39 runs 1:01 and features Kurt Mensching, Allison Hagen, and Al Beaton.

Topics:

  • Multiple choice question. Why aren't the Tigers winning?
  • Jim Leyland doesn't like the approach he sees at the plate...when watching on TV in clubhouse.
  • When you have a roster full of free swingers, shouldn't we expect stretches when the roster isn't hitting?
  • Insane umpires are insane, wants to kill Justin Verlander.
  • What in the HELL happened to Octavio Dotel in Seattle?
  • Closer issues are not just a Detroit problem.
  • In his first start back from the DL, Doug Fister was pulled after 7 shutout innings and 73 pitches. Why?
  • Leyland's strategy to get Ryan Raburn hitting is to move him up in the order and play him every day.
  • Andy Dirks goes up the batting order, Brennan Boesch goes down. Who says Leyand won't tweak the order?
  • Jeremy Bonderman is contemplating a comeback, has Tommy John surgery.
  • Cole Hamels admitted throwing at Bryce Harper, and was suspended for 5 game. Leyland says it wasn't enough.
  • Changing stupid baseball rules.
  • A lightning round involving high socks and poker.
  • Allison is tired of west coast baseball, Kurt talks BYB commenters and civility, Al reams Peter Gammons for dragging bloggers through the mud.
